Semi-Hermetic Compressors

For years Emerson’s semi-hermetic compressors have been the efficiency choice in refrigeration. Discus® compressors have led the industry in terms of energy efficiency for decades, delivering up to 10% more efficiency than any reed reciprocating compressor technology offered by other manufacturers. The performance of those reed reciprocating compressors meets basic market requirements but cannot compete either with Discus® compressors nor with the new Stream series in terms of low energy consumption.

The Stream series is Emerson’s new line of semi hermetic reciprocating compressors. It was developed with the promise to be even more efficient than Discus®. The Stream series is a brand new line of four and six cylinder compressors with best in class performance for today’s HFC, natural and low GWP refrigerants. The Stream series compressors are specially designed for low and medium temperature refrigeration applications and will at term replace the S series and the Discus® series.

Emerson’s innovative technologies such as Discus®, digital continuous capacity modulation, CoreSense Diagnostics™ for advanced protection, diagnostics and preventive maintenance, or Emerson sound shell give manufacturers, installers and end users the right tools to reduce installations’ carbon footprint, optimize system design, efficiency, sound and reliability while ensuring long equipment life time and minimizing capital and operating cost.

Emerson’s semi hermetic range of compressors offers many benefits:

• Efficiency: Discus® valves replace traditional “reed” valves and are integrated in the valve plate. This special design eliminates the dead volume at the end of the compression and enables the highest compressor efficiency
• Multi refrigerant compressors: each model is compatible with the most commonly used refrigerants which helps to reduce product complexity and simplifies equipment design.
• Simple continuous capacity modulation when using digital technology for continuous control from 10 to 100%.
• Low sound: Stream is one of the quietest reciprocating compressors on the market. The Stream sound shell provides for further sound reduction by an additional 15 dBA.
• Advanced protection, diagnostics and preventive maintenance with CoreSense™ Diagnostics.
